    About Bulgaria

Bulgaria is situated in Eastern Europe, bordered to the north by the river Danube and Romania, to the east by the Black Sea, to the south by Turkey and Greece and to the west by Serbia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The Balkan Mountains stretch across the country, reaching to the Black Sea and its golden beaches. The land is heavily cultivated and covered with forests and rivers.

Bulgaria provides a holiday destination in the summer with the beach resorts of the Black Sea boasting some of the largest beaches in Europe. Their summer season runs from approximately May until October, although the beginning and end to the season may not be as warm as other European summer destinations.

In total contrast the winter brings heavy snowfall in the mountain ski resorts offering some of the greatest skiing conditions within Europe. Although only recently being appreciated by foreign skiers, Bulgarian ski resorts have always proved popular with the nationals.

Bulgaria is set to join the European Union in 2007 and has already taken steps to integrate itself with the EU, including unilaterally linking its currency to the Euro (Lithuania and Estonia also did this before entry). Entry negotiation talks were closed in December 2004 and The Treaty of Accession was signed on 25 April 2005.
